A Sunday school teacher of mine once said “you become like the people you surround yourself with.”  While I’m certain she isn’t the first person to have quoted this, her words ring true to me today more than ever before.  The path set before the Christian is not a solitary road.  Despite what the world may tell us, being alone, aloof, and autonomous is not a symbol of strength of Character.  Self-sufficiency can be the bane of humility.

Male Friendship Is Declining. Wives Can Help.

Last fall, my husband hesitantly mentioned that some guys from church were planning a weekend away to play golf, and they’d asked him to come. Before I could tell him I thought it was a great idea, he started to list all the reasons he probably shouldn’t go. He didn’t want to leave me to parent solo for a whole weekend. It was baseball season, and he’d miss our sons’ games that Saturday. He wouldn’t be able to help with this or that around the house.
